The History of the Atom

Democritus first proposed a great atomic model. He declared that all matter could be broken into smaller and smaller pieces until a single indivisible molecule was come to. He known as this molecule an atom after the Ancient greek language word ‘atomos' meaning not really cuttable. This individual believed that different atoms are of various sizes, have got regular geometric shapes and they are always in motion. He as well said that there is certainly empty space between atoms. Aristotle seriously criticized Democritus' theory, quarrelling that the idea of atoms in continuous motion is a gap is not really logical. This individual supported the ‘four element' theory of matter (proposed by Empedocles a century before. This theory is based on the idea that all subject is made up of 4 basic substances; earth, drinking water, air and fire. He said each one of these basic substances had diverse combinations of four qualities: dry, moist, cold and sizzling. Dalton extended on the atomic theory suggested by Democritus. It contains the following assertions: all subject is composed of tiny, indivisible debris called atoms, all atoms of an element have the same properties, atoms of different factors have different real estate, atoms of two or more components can combine in constant ratios to form new substances, in chemical reactions, atoms sign up for together or perhaps separate coming from each other tend to be not destroyed. This theory explains what the law states of Conservation of Mass. He learned that atoms are merely rearranged during chemical reactions, atoms are nor created neither destroyed in chemical reaction and so there will be zero change in mass during chemical reactions. His theory explains what the law states of Regular Composition, which can be that atoms combine to form molecules within a fixed ratio in a presented chemical reaction. This individual also declared since the atoms of an aspect have similar properties, just like mass, and combine We constant proportions, every chemical substance must have a set, definite composition.
