A. Significance of the study
Pechay (Brassica rapa D. cv group Pak Choi) is a great erect, biennial herb, grown as a about 15-30 cm tall in vegetative stage. Ovate leaves happen to be arranged spirally and growing. The petioles are increased and grow upright forming a subwoofer cylindrical package deal. Inflorescence is known as a raceme with pale discolored flowers. Seed products are one particular mm in diameter and they are reddish to blackish darkish in color. 1
Uses and Nutritional Value
Pechay is used mainly for its immature, but completely expanded tender leaves. the succulent petioles are often the preferred part. It can be used since main component for soups and stir-fried dishes. In Chinese dishes, its green petioles and leaves are also used as ornament. Each 95 g fresh edible part contains:

Climatic and Soil Requirements
Pechay can be cultivated low to mid elevations throughout the year. Production is best, however , during the dry out season in sandy to clay loam soil, with a pH of 5. 5-5. 6.
Pechay can either be sown directly in soil or perhaps transplanted. Immediate seeding is usually carried out by transmitting or by sowing in rows. Cover seeds into a depth of about 1 cm by raking or dispersing additional topsoil. Water immediately after sowing. Herb spacing needs to be 10 cm between vegetation and twenty cm among rows.
If transplanted, sow seeds at first in seedbeds. Transplant seedlings 2-3 several weeks after sowing at a distance of 10 cm between vegetation and 20 cm among rows. Implant preferably inside the afternoon and water instantly. Mulch with grass clippings or rice straw.
Apply seedlings with starter solution using Vermi compost/FPJ by rate of 2 tbsp/1 cover of normal water. Side dress along the series at the level of 2 tbsp/1 litter seven days after re-planting at early morning or overdue afternoon.
Pest and Disease Management
Damping-off, gentle rot and clubroot are definitely the most important disease of pechay, while diamondback moth and aphids are the major bugs. Spraying hot pepper get can control these unwanted pests. When baby plants begin to wilt, reduce providing water immediately. Uproot and burn disease-infected plant life to prevent spread of illnesses. Cultivation is likewise necessary to lessen weeds.
Harvest as early as three several weeks after growing or between 30-40 times after sowing. Harvest if possible in the afternoon to minimize postharvest losses.
Upon harvesting, rinse the plant life, trim outdated leaves and remove beginnings. Grade relating to size and top quality, pack in strong rigid containers with holes on the sides to allow...
